Shirley May Honsaker, of Clarksville passed away on Tuesday surrounded by the love of her family. She had just celebrated her 93rd birthday.
She is survived by her daughters Susan Wilson (Harry) of Borden, Saundra Eckert (John) of Cincinnati, OH, Sheryl Honsaker of Cincinnati, OH, and Lisa Mann (Jeff) of Clarksville; her son, Roger Honsaker (Veronica) of Scottsdale, AZ; granddaughters Melissa Casey (Troy), Brittany Randolph, Jaclyn Mann, and Rachel Eckert; her grandsons Kelyn Mann (Laura), Kevin Eckert, and Dylan Mann; her great-granddaughter Carson Casey, and her great-grandsons Nolan Casey, Hayden Casey, Seth Randolph, Landon Randolph, and Brody Mann.
Shirley was born on May 1, 1924 in Youngstown, OH. Shirley lived a good portion of her life in a small town in Pennsylvania outside of Pittsburgh raising her family. She was a mother, homemaker, and seamstress. Shirley was the town’s socialite and a friend to many.
Shirley was a stunning beauty with bright white hair and a coy smile that left her mark with a constant positive outlook on life. She was quite often complimented on her bright clothing and stylish accessories, as she was dressed to the nines daily. She had a sharp mind up until the end that would keep you on your toes. Shirley never met a stranger, and she could get anyone on her team in minutes.
She loved to play bridge, euchre, and other games with her card clubs and large circle of friends. Shirley enjoyed many games, especially playing (and winning!) Scrabble and Gin Rummy with her grandchildren. She never missed a daily crossword puzzle, nor her nightly episodes of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She loved to play jokes, sing songs, or drop one liners to get a smile out of all.
We now celebrate the long and joyous life Shirley May loved to live up to her final day. She will be missed by many, especially the family and friends she continued to keep up with almost daily until her final breath.
Shirley’s family requests your presence at the Knights of Columbus, 225 E Market Street, Jeffersonville, on Saturday, May 20, where they’ll receive visitors and memorialize Shirley’s life from 2 to 5 p.m. Photographs, memories, and stories with Shirley May are encouraged.
