Sheila Overton Obituary

Sheila Rene (Barron) Overton, age 68, of New Albany, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Norton Hospital. Sheila was born on July 3, 1956, in Austin, Texas, and was born to Curtis Barron and Beatrice Williams and was raised by James Wiggins.

Sheila was raised in San Diego, California, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1974. She retired from the U.S. Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where she made lifelong friendships and lasting memories. She was known for her vibrant personality, generous spirit, and deep love for family and friends. Sheila had a passion for collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, sharing her life and laughter on social media, painting, and traveling—proudly visiting nearly all 50 states. Her home and heart were always open, and she had a gift for making others feel welcomed and loved.

Sheila was deeply committed to causes close to her heart, especially her fundraising efforts for the Kidney Foundation and her beloved Sugar Bear Crew. Her joy was amplified during outings with her dear friends Stacie, Barbara Ann, and her fellow Census Bureau sisters.

She is survived by her loving children Marshe’ Roberson and her husband Troy, Lamara Rene’ Overton, and Whitney Overton and her husband Richard; her stepchildren Christian Manning, Patrick Manning, Whitney Rashawn Sims, Tanz Hawkins, Lesley Ryan Simms, Antwan Seagraves, and Star Cosier; and her cherished grandchildren LaQwan Overton, Drahcir Lunsford,  Lori’Bea Lunsford, Ashtian Manning, King Ferguson and Kyro Ferguson, along with a host of other children who lovingly called her “Granna.”

Sheila is also survived by her siblings Marry Young, Curtis Barron Jr., Michelle Barron, Elaine Barron, and Chris Manning; her ex-husband and friend Marvin Overton; and her devoted boyfriend Charles “Chuckie” Howard. She has touched everyone she came across in her life and they will always hold a special place in her heart.
