Robert “Butch” Carl Obermiller, age 91, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away at 9:26 PM on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at his residence.
Born in Jeffersonville, Indiana, he was the son of the late Julius Carl Obermiller and Estelle Williams Obermiller. Butch proudly served his country as an Army veteran and later retired as a shop supervisor from Munich Welding. He was a longtime member of the Sellersburg American Legion and attended Colgate Baptist Church. He was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
A true outdoorsman and lifelong enthusiast of many interests, Butch was a gun enthusiast, flying his Cessna plane, scuba diving, and fishing. He was known as someone who could fix anything—whether it was welding, repairing a lawnmower, or helping a neighbor in need. Generosity defined him, and he was always eager to share whatever he had. Those who knew him will remember him as a kind, giving man with a helpful spirit and a heart for others.
Butch is survived by his son, Mark Carl Obermiller (Rene); his grandchildren, Brandon Obermiller, Clinton Obermiller, and Bailey Waskom; his step-grandchildren, Christopher Laporga (Janel), Janelle Deck (Jordan), and Lindsey Laporga; and his step-great-grandchildren, Willow Deck, Jones Deck, and Lucia Laporga.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carol Moore Obermiller; and a sister, Murrell Obermiller Pigg.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Chapman Funeral Home, 431 W. Harrison Ave., Clarksville, IN 47129. His funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM, with entombment to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
