Petty Laney Obituary

Petty Francis Wilson Laney, age 88, of Madison, Tennessee, formerly of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 9:59 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee.

She was born on October 28, 1936, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Chester Wilson and Cova Embry Wilson. Petty retired from South Central Bell, where she worked as an alarm specialist. She was a longtime and faithful member of Northside Church of Christ and a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the 50+ Club, with whom she enjoyed many travel adventures.

Petty had a generous heart and a passion for helping others. She volunteered at two hospitals in Tennessee, where she lovingly crocheted hats and frogs for children in need. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and giving back to her community in quiet and meaningful ways.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Laney; her son, James Laney Jr.; her sister, Donna Faye Wilson; and her brother, Edward Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Laney Baldwin; her son, Joel Laney; and her cherished grandchildren, Joshua Allen Laney, Rachel Fortson (Trent), and Nash Ian Laney. She is also survived by her granddog, Chancho, and grandcat, Vivian, who brought her much joy and companionship.
