Mona L. (Tackitt) Mitchell, age 87, of Floyds Knobs, formerly of Jeffersonville, passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
Mona was born on October 16, 1937, in Melvin, Kentucky, to the late Ervin and Ollie Tackitt. She was a longtime resident of Jeffersonville, Indiana, where she lived for 55 years. Mona retired after 32 years of dedicated service from Methodist Evangelical Hospital.
She was a woman who loved life and found joy in the simple things—gardening, cooking, playing the slot machines, and most of all, spending time with her family. Her home was always open and welcoming, not just to her loved ones, but also to her cherished grand pups and grand kitten.
Mona is survived by her three sons: Patrick Mitchell (Jessica), Timothy Mitchell (Laura), and Robert Mitchell (Michelle); six grandchildren: Daniel Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, William Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, and Caimen Mitchell; her great-grandchildren: Riley Mitchell, Brayden Robinson, Landen Mitchell, Dalton Mitchell, and Bentlee McAdams; and a sister, Jacqueline Warren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert J. Mitchell, a grandson, Christopher Mitchell; her brothers Charles Clayton Tackitt, Freddie Elmer Tackitt, and James Donald Tackitt; and her sisters Norma Jean Creclius, and Ocelene Bolt.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Home, 431 W. Harrison Ave., Clarksville, IN.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, with additional visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Mona’s strength, warmth, and unconditional love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
