Mary Lynn Shelton, 68, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Norton Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. She was born on April 19, 1957, in Northern Indiana to Robert McClure and Vivian Curtis (Goss), the third of four daughters.
Mary was raised in Jeffersonville after moving there at a young age. It was there she became part of the Curtis family, whom she loved deeply and remained close to throughout her life. She later made her home in Clarksville, where she resided at the time of her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved nephew, Skylar “Pooter” Shelton, whom she loved dearly and missed greatly; and her youngest sister, Cindy McClure Tomlin.
Mary leaves behind a family who will cherish her memory: her children, Kendra King, Tara Shelton, and Scott Shelton (Tiffany); her stepchildren, Violet Shelton (George) and Theo Shelton (Katie); and her longtime companion and former husband, Ted Shelton. She is also survived by her faithful dog, Dozer.
She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Richie, Kyla, Coby, Little Theo, Hali—her constant sidekick—John, Carter, and Carson.
Mary is also survived by her sisters, Debbie Hall (Chate) and Lonnie Linton; her cousins; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
During her working years, Mary was employed at Daily’s 24 Hour Food Mart, The Evening News, Howard Johnson, and Dairy Queen.
In her younger years, Mary found joy in the simple moments that brought people together. She loved playing cards and dice with family, bowling in leagues with Ted, Maw, and Johnny, and attending bingo nights. She was a loyal supporter of her children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends, often cheering them on at Sportsdrome Speedway. She also treasured time spent sharing meals and hosting cookouts with family and friends.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the American Legion, 801 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana. Friends and family are invited to gather, visit, and share memories beginning at 3:00 PM. Following the service, family and friends are welcome to continue reminiscing until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary’s honor to Amedisys Hospice
