Juanita Smith Watts, age 70, of Austin, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. She was born on April 25, 1956, to the late Vollie and Vernice (Moore) Smith.
Juanita lived a life defined by dedication—to her family, her friends, and the simple joys that brought her happiness each day. She retired from the Scott County Treasurer’s Office, where she faithfully served the citizens of Scott County for many years with patience, compassion, dependability, and sincere commitment to helping others.
A devoted member of Fairview Christian Church in Underwood, Juanita’s faith was an important part of her life and guided the way she cared for others. She found great joy in gardening, tending to flowers and plants that reflected her nurturing spirit, as well as in collecting antiques, reading, interior decorating, and making her family’s favorite foods. More than anything, her family was among her greatest joys. She treasured every moment spent with her family and friends—the time together that became lasting memories.
Juanita is lovingly remembered by her children, Chris Watts (Heather) and B.J. Watts (Mindy); her grandchildren, Tristen Watts and Ty Watts (Lauren); her brother-in-law Mike Stamper; her sisters, Shirley Thomas (Robert) and “Sunny” Smith-Hendricks; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, David W. Watts, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership; her parents; and her siblings, Ernest Smith, Aaron Smith, Richard Smith, and Brenda Stamper.
Those who knew Juanita will remember her for her warmth; her endless pride of her family, especially her sons, grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and the way she made others feel welcomed, valued, cared for, and loved. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, her legacy continues on in the family she loved so deeply and in the lives she touched through her kindness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation will be held at Fairview Christian Church, 2028 W. Fairview Road, Underwood, Indiana, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 4:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest in Fairview Church Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Chapman Funeral Home, 431 W. Harrison Avenue, Clarksville, Indiana 47129.
