James Patrick “Jimmy” Abner, age 51, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 9:00 p.m. on April 28, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Jimmy was born on January 22, 1975, in Seymour, Indiana. He touched the lives of many and was loved by everyone who met him. With his gentle spirit and kind heart, Jimmy brought joy to those around him. A member of Garden City Church of Christ, he found happiness in life’s simple pleasures such as car rides, bowling with Special Olympics, swimming, and playing with his toys. He was also a member of the Jackson County ARC Club, where he formed many meaningful friendships.
Jimmy was deeply loved by his family and will be missed beyond words. He is survived by his devoted parents, Chilton Eugene Abner and Donna Earlene (Reynolds) Abner; sister in law, Stephanie Abner and a niece, Marisa Wheeler; a very special lady, Teresa Helm who was his legal guardian; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins who cherished him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his birth father, Troy P. Hampton; a sister, Penny Jo Reynolds; and a brother, Christopher Scott Abner.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Cornerstone Community Church, 1088 Sarasota Drive, Seymour, Indiana, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service with Pastor Randy King officiating.
Jimmy will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery.
