Edith Mae Gutkese

Edith Mae Gutkese (Plaiss), age 96, of Jeffersonville, IN, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.  

She was born on December 11, 1926, in New Albany, Indiana to the late George and Anna Mae (Roth) Plaiss. She was a Girl Scout leader and worked as a phone operator for Indiana Bell Telephone Company in New Albany. She loved the Red White and Blue holidays, especially her 4th of July picnics. She was a Lincoln enthusiast; she could tell you anything you wanted to know.  

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara “Bobbie” Robertson (Samuel); grandson, Matthew Robertson; and a sister, Betty Stiller. Many Nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law Joan Shirley. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gutkese; sisters, Barbara Rice, Jennifer Hill; and brothers, Robert “Bob” Plaiss, and George “Bud” Plaiss.  

Visitation will be on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home, 431 West Harrison Avenue, Clarksville, IN 47129 

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.  

Burial will follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville, IN
