Charles S. Banks Jr. “Chuck” passed away Saturday May 4, 2024, in the hospital surrounded by
family and friends. Chuck was born April 13, 1961, to Charles Sr. and Gloria Hoff Banks in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Chuck was a fighter and battled his kidney cancer with grace and dignity. Chuck
loved his family and friends more than life itself. He had been a licensed funeral director for
over 40 years, working at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarksville, Indiana where he was the
Managing Director/Owner. He and his wife Kelly would be celebrating their 38 th wedding.
anniversary on May 10, 2024.
Chuck was preceded in death by his mother Gloria Banks, father Charles Banks Sr., and his
mother-in-law and father-in-law Bob and Pat Kraft.
Chuck is survived by his wife Kelly, sons, Kyle Banks (Erin) Western Springs, Illinois, Sean
Banks (Kathryn) New York City, New York, his 2 grand dogs Buckley and Willow, and his
precious cat, “Kat”. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews, great nieces and
nephews, many cousins who were more like siblings, aunts and uncles, and close friends who
were also family.
Chuck loved sports and was a huge fan of Notre Dame football, IU basketball, Boston Red Sox,
Cincinnati Reds, and of course the DC Breeze Professional Ultimate Frisbee team managed by
his son Sean.
He developed a love for cooking after his children were grown, and enjoyed watching people
savor his food, even more than he enjoyed eating it. His family looked forward to his Mother’s
Day marinated chicken on the grill every year.
He fulfilled some of his bucket list items before his passing. He and his wife spent a week in the
summer of 2023 in Washington DC with their children and their spouses enjoying the sites and
tourist attractions, along with having the honor of being asked to perform the honorary first pull
at his very first DC Breeze game. He and Kelly also went to Dallas, Texas and took the JFK
assassination tour. He had always been fascinated with this piece of history. Just before his
surgery in October 2023 he spent a long weekend in a cabin in Nashville, Indiana with Kelly,
Kyle, Erin, Sean, Kathryn, Buckley and Willow, just hanging out, playing games and sitting
around the firepit. This was his favorite type of vacation.
Chuck will be missed by so many. He touched many lives in the community with his ministry at
the Funeral Home.
Visitation for Chuck will be on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Followed by his funeral starting at 11 a.m. Services will be held at Chapman Funeral Home, 431 West Harrison
Ave, Clarksville, IN 47129
Chuck will be laid to rest at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
