Paul Slattery Obituary

Paul Eugene Slattery, 79, died Thursday, February 15, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Sonestown, PA, on May 9, 1938. He attended East Lyncoming School and played shortstop for the first undefeated team in East Lycoming Little League in Hughesville, PA where he was a charter member over 65 years.

His fondest childhood memories were the family fishing trips to Canada. He moved to Harrods Creek, KY., and served in the Kentucky National Guard, 149th Armor Group. He transferred to Indiana where he served 4 years in the National Guard HQ 1st BAT, 151st infantry.

He was a direct descendant of Conrad Weiser, and Indian interpreter and ambassador in Pennsylvania history. He was a member of the River city Classic Chevy Club and Hoosier Knob Car Club. He enjoyed displaying his 1956 Bel Air Chevy at car shows and won lots of trophies. He drove his '56 chevy to Tennessee to annual car shows. His hobby was collecting auto license plates from all over, including different countries.  He wrote short articles for Ryder Magazine.

He sang on Ben Stillwater's TV show "Country Junction: that was on WBKI in Louisville and Bowling Green. He worked on Milt Hartlauf's race car in 1956 when NASCAR raced on the sand at Daytona Beach. He retired from the Clarksville Fire Department in 1992 after 28 years of services.He and his wife Shirley enjoyed many years of travel after retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Nelson Slattery, a son Paul Slattery Jr. (Robin) of Clarksville, a daughter Terry Robinson (Kenneth) of Sellersburg, 2 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, and 6 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at Chapman Funeral Home. Cremation will follow with burial of Paul's ashes to take place at a later date per his wishes.
