James W. "Jim" Payne Jr., 75, died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Louisville, his family moved to Red Boiling Springs, TN where he was raised until he turned 18 when he moved back to the Louisville area. He worked in computers at GE and retired from Ford. Jim was very involved in giving back to his community by serving as a Police and Fire Commissioner, Liaison Director of Code Red, Neighborhood Watch Program, the Drug Take Back Program. He volunteered for multiple police programs: Clark Fest, Thunder over Louisville, Parkwood School Festival, Clarksville Community School events, Gateway Park events, Memorial Day and Veteran Day events. He also was a past member of the Jaycees, and served on the Clarksville Community School Board on two separate occasison (1983-1992) and from 2017 until the date of his passing.
He was an avid lover of golf, a huge UofL fan, county music and anything you can get for a bargain. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend to all those who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife Karen in 2001, and a daughter Kelly Bryant in 2014.
Survivors include a daughter, Deboarah Knight (James) of Floyd Knobs, a son Michael Payne (Kim) of English, IN., a brother, David Williams of Nashville, TN, and grandchildren, Ryan Knight (Brittnay) Karena and Patrick Knight, Adam and Nicholas Bryant, Austin and Kelsey Prifogle, and Destinee Waeltherman (Bret) and great-grandchildren Nolan and Brently.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday June 26, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home with burial to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 on Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of Sympathy may be make in the form of contributions to Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
