Charles Marvin Gabhart of Jeffersonville, Indiana passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019.

Born in Martinsville, Indiana on June 28th, 1926 to Carl H and Stella B. (née Perry) Gabhart, Charles served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Astoria (CL-90) and the USS Fall River (CA-131) in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 3rd Class in 1946.

Upon his return to Kentucky, he married and began raising a family. He worked for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and State Farm Insurance while attending the University of Louisville on the GI Bill. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a minor in physics. Continuing his studies, he earned a Juris Doctor degree in 1963.
In 1968 he moved his practice to Jeffersonville, Indiana. He enjoyed a successful legal career as a trial attorney representing thousands of clients for forty years until his retirement in 2004. His reputation for selfless generosity in both personal and professional matters was well earned.

Charles’ accomplishments include serving as Chief Deputy Prosecutor for Clark County, Indiana; serving as deacon and director of music at First Baptist Church of Sellersburg; serving on the Southern Baptists Board and meeting fellow member President Jimmy Carter in Washington, D.C.; admission to the Indiana and Kentucky Bar Associations as well as the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.  He was a commissioned Kentucky Colonel. In his spare time he enjoyed music, golf, and UofL athletics.

He is survived by his beloved wife Lisa (née Rauck) Gabhart, sons Paige (Betty), Mark, Scott (Leslie), Reed, Clay (Angela), Spencer (Liz) and daughter Jenn, all of Southern Indiana; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; and brother Terry Gabhart (Sandy) of Pleasureville, Kentucky
