When he was a young boy growing up on Chicago’s southside, during America’s Depression
era, is where he found an inspiration for singing. Going to picture shows, watching movies like
Singing in the Rain and sitting at his local park while the birds chirping is where his first
moments of loving music began. Although he worked for the City of Chicago as a Service
Manager for 20 years his true passion was his music career. Gerald Dickerson, spirit and soul
lived to create meaningful music and his passion for being a musician was boundless. This
inspiration led him to try out his singing voice at local nightclubs talent shows and juke spots.
After several wins at the local talent show, he would go on to form his own music group, The
Contributors of Soul. Gerald’s powerful voice landed the group a spot on the roster at Chicago’s
famous Regal Theater. He would later write and sing songs titles, “Heaven and Earth”, “Super
People”, “You Can’t Help But Fall In Love”, “Look What You Done For Me”, and “I Don’t Know”
are a few of his recording accomplishments. Working with labels like United Artists Records,
Mississippi Ricks, and Curtis Mayfeild record company Curtom Records. Gerald Dickerson was
an Icon to those that loved him, and his legacy will live on though his surviving children and
grandchildren, Joel Caples, Ja-wan Curtis, Ja-Mell Peyton, Courtney and Ashley Dickerson and
Xavier Massey and many great grandchildren. He was loved by his family, and he will be missed
forever.
